Nestled on the Central California Coast, Adventist Health Sierra Vista has been providing care to our community since 1959. Our 162-bed acute care facility includes a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and county designated trauma center. San Luis Obispo offers the excitement of a lively community while being a fifteen-minute drive from the serenity of Avila Beach, known for their natural hot springs, and Pismo Beach, known for their sand dunes and eucalyptus trees. Twin Cities

Located in Templeton amongst the oak trees, Adventist Health Twin Cities has been serving northern San Luis Obispo County since 1977. Comprised of a 122-bed acute care facility, our team provides exceptional care in emergency medicine, orthopedics, obstetrics, digestive disorders, wound care, and various medical, surgical and outpatient services. Locals enjoy weekly farmers markets in downtown Templeton, farm-to-fork dining, beautiful landscapes for hiking and biking, and beach days just fifteen minutes away at Cambria and Morro Bay.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Maintains responsibility for the oversight of the Patient Safety Program. Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the hospital's overall quality and patient safety initiatives. Serves as an advocate and mentor for patient safety interfacing primarily with employees, leadership, and patients by developing programs that reduce patient risk. Promotes systems that foster the development of a culture of proactive patient safety.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Assists leadership in defining key performance indicators and developing measurement tools to evaluate quality improvement; coordinates patient safety culture assessment efforts. Develops strategies for improvement that include considerations for leading practice research and shares implementation results across the organization. Works collaboratively with Infection Control, Risk Management, Medical Staff, nursing leadership, and clinical staff to integrate patient safety and the "Culture of Safety" throughout the organization. Facilitates department and Patient Safety Champion meetings, analyzes trends of performance metrics, identifies and recommends opportunities for improvement, develops action plans, measures success of action plans and creates the records and follow-up metrics for each meeting and activity; reassesses approach to maximize success. Leads the Culture of Safety survey, COS staff debriefing, action plan development, and correlation process in collaboration with the Patient Safety Officer. Participates in and/or coordinates multi-facility/business unit and/or system-wide projects, initiatives, and collaborative efforts. Facilitates patient safety efforts and coaches others in the development of patient safety improvement capabilities with emphasis on process redesign and measurement. Provides direction to the department leadership in the planning of a systematic approach to continuous patient safety improvement. Promotes patient safety, improves outcomes, and drives hospital improvement initiatives in these areas. Aggregates and analyzes data in support of Peer Review and Performance Improvement Teams as needed (i.e. Leap Frog, CALNOC, etc.). Provides oversight/leadership for activities on patient safety and provides ongoing education to employees, medical staff, and residencies regarding the principles of patient safety. Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Education and Work Experience:

  • Associate's/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
  • Bachelor's Degree: Preferred
  • Three years' technical experience: Preferred
