Wage Scale Salary range $63,527.86 - $82,586.57. Based on experience.
Description General Summary: Under the direction of the Juvenile Division Director/Referee, supervises caseworkers, monitors their caseloads, and directs and assigns the activities of the Juvenile Division casework staff. Assists the Director with policy development and administration. Oversees the intake and screening of delinquency complaints/petitions pertaining to youths. Serves as a referee at informal and formal delinquency hearings. Acts for the Director in the absence of that individual as directed.
Essential Functions: - As supervisor of casework services is responsible for personnel management functions such as participating in employment interviews and recommending the hiring of staff, training, scheduling, assigning work, maintaining personnel records, and participating in the review and evaluation of performance.
- Directs casework staff in the implementation of probation services. Includes developing assessments, casework plans, and reviewing treatment goals.
- Supervises staff in investigating delinquency complaints/petitions, and reviewing predisposition reports for recommendation to the judge.
- Conducts case reviews with casework staff. Reviews the more complex matters with staff and assists in the proper application of laws, court rules and policies and assists in the handling of more difficult and sensitive case matters.
- Serves as referee, including holding 24-hour hearings, arraignments, pretrial conferences, probation violation hearings, and inquiries. Identifies youths to place in diversion programs. Coordinates and arranges detention placements and transportation.
- Coordinates activities on days the judge conducts delinquency hearings to ensure the presence of the necessary parties.
- Performs intake screening of referrals and determines whether the matter should be handled formally or informally. Assigns cases to caseworkers for investigation. Provides court consequences to youth who violate their probation.
- Reviews court procedures, policies and operations and recommends modifications to the Director as appropriate. Assists the Director in developing diversion and other court programs.
- Serves as a liaison with community organizations, law enforcement agencies, schools, and other agencies to assist in providing continuous service to families.
- Handles emergency delinquency calls from police and detention facilities on weekends. Sets and holds required hearings.
- Schedules, tracks, and monitors case flow to ensure compliance with applicable court rules and administrative orders.
- Acts for the Director in the absence of that individual, including hearing neglect/abuse matters as a referee.
- Performs other duties as required.

Position Requirements Employment Qualifications: Education: - Bachelor's Degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling or a related area is desirable however, Law Degree is REQUIRED.
Experience: - Five years of experience dealing with domestic relations cases in an investigative, administrative or legal capacity.
Other Requirements: - Michigan Supreme Court Referee Certification.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- A Michigan Vehicle Operator's License.
