The Work You Will Do:
This Environmental Consultant position performs work under the direction of the Environmental Administrator for the Division of Water Resource Management’s Source and Drinking Water Program located in Tallahassee, Florida. The position provides technical assistance in the implementation of all aspects of the Safe Drinking Water Act.

The Environmental Consultant participates in meetings with representatives from the regulated community and federal, state, and local governments; develops reports as required by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; and assists with other duties as required.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
This advanced environmental position assists in developing rules and policies related to the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and potable reuse. Evaluates current rules and policies and recommends modifications as needed. As an Environmental Consultant, assists in any necessary rulemaking and policy-making activities for the program. Recommends and drafts legislation and regulations or amendments to existing legislation, and support Program, Division, and Department leadership as needed. Ensures that rules, policies, and legislation are consistent with environmental and economic concerns and with sound wastewater management practices.
Assists the Environmental Administrator with outreach to the Department’s regulatory district offices on activities pertaining to the SDWA and potable reuse and necessary revisions to implement program enhancements.
Assists the Environmental Administrator with developing and updating guidelines and manuals and conducting legislative bill analysis.
Assists in preparation of primacy applications and ancillary supporting documents and data for timely submission to EPA.
Consults and coordinates with local governments, regional planning agencies, state and federal agencies, business and professional interests and district personnel on the environmental aspects of the Drinking Water Program.
Works with EPA, the Department’s District offices, delegated county programs, and any other relevant federal, state, or local government agency to ensure consistency and implementation of the federally authorized SDWA program.
