Job Description
The Assistant Stage Manager works under the supervision of the Production Manager and Production Stage Manager for all Aspen Opera Theater & VocalARTS (AOTVA) productions. The AOTVA program is under the co-artistic direction of Rene Fleming and Patrick Summers. The upcoming season will utilize the AMFS orchestras, the 2,050 seat Klein Music Tent, and Historic Wheeler Opera House throughout an encompassing 8-week summer season. This season's mainstage productions will be Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte and Puccini's La Bohme. This role assists with the run of rehearsals and performances throughout the season with two mainstage productions, as well as independently managing weekly public opera theater classes and showcases.
Responsibilities
- Assist in blocking notes, line cuing, clerical work, and resetting furniture and props prior to rehearsals and shows.
- Independently manage public classes throughout season, assignments dependent on weekly workload of Stage Management team members.
- The AOTVA Stage Management team consists of a PSM and three ASM's.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or graduated with a BA/BFA in Technical Theatre with an emphasis in stage management or equivalent professional experience and a minimum of 1 year of stage management experience required.
- Candidate must be able to make quick decisions while maintaining a calm demeanor under all circumstances.
- Candidates with prior opera experience and the ability to read an opera score will be given preference.
- Candidates must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and materials or, of greater weights in tandem with additional crew member assistance and be comfortable and confident climbing stairs and ladders.
Dates June 12, 2025-August 26, 2025
Compensation $15.90/hour plus housing provided by AMFS (valued at a minimum of $4.91/hour depending on location.) Overtime $23.85/hour
Benefits include AMFS season pass and paid sick time.
